Attorney Nicholas Patrick Merriweather is a highly skilled lawyer, experienced in the areas of litigation, conflict resolution and negotiation. His practice primarily involves the following: Homeowners’ Associations (HOA), Condominium Associations, Foreclosure, Landlord & Tenant Law, Evictions, Lease Drafting, Deed Drafting, Property/Boundary Disputes, Partition, Quiet Title/Title Claims, Debt Collection, Debt Settlement, Contract Review and Corporate Law. He has served as an advisor to more than 50 homeowners and condominium associations, as well as represented several multimillion dollar banks, in all aspects of pre-litigation and litigation matters.

BACKGROUND

Attorney Merriweather was raised in Savannah, Georgia for grades K-12. He knew he wanted to be a lawyer since kindergarten. He first pursued this childhood dream during high school, when he participated in mock trial all four years. Except for his first year of playing the role of attorney, he received an “Outstanding Attorney” Award in the remaining competitions. After his final mock trial competition, he was selected as one (1) of only two (2) advocates to represent the entire county for Law Day at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta, Georgia.

After high school, Attorney Merriweather attended Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He then attended Stetson University College of Law, in Gulfport, Florida. In his second year of law school, he participated in an intramural mock trial competition and won the “Best Advocate” award for each round he competed in, including the semi-final round that his team ultimately lost. He also won “Best Overall Advocate” for the entire competition.  By his third year of law school, he was selected as a member of Stetson’s #1 nationally ranked Trial Team. At graduation, he was awarded the William F. Blews Pro Bono Service Award, the Leadership Development Certificate and was the only recipient of the “International Academy of Trial Lawyers Award.”

HISTORY

Attorney Merriweather began his legal career in 2010 as an Assistant State Attorney for the State Attorney’s Office – 10th Judicial Circuit in Polk County, Florida. He prosecuted misdemeanor and felony crimes and was a special prosecutor in the Crimes Against Children division. He gained extensive courtroom experience and tried more than 80 jury trials to verdict.

 

In 2014, Attorney Merriweather extended his litigation skills from criminal law to civil court. He primarily focused on Foreclosure Law, Community Associations, Landlord/Tenant Act, Debt Collection Practice, Corporate Law and Real Property Disputes and Title Claims. He has represented national and local banks, corporations, and small or large businesses in 35+ counties throughout Florida. He also provided counsel for more than 50 homeowner & condominium associations in Polk County.
